Bradford Woods Conservancy’s 5000 Tree Initiative:
A Greener Future Taking Root
Since 2022, the Bradford Woods Conservancy has been leading an ambitious effort to plant 5,000 native trees throughout our community.
The native trees have been provided free of charge to residents of Bradford Woods, empowering homeowners to help restore and enhance the local environment.
These trees not only beautify our community but also improve air quality, support native wildlife, and contribute to the long-term health of our community’s natural resources.
Thanks to the dedication of volunteers and the enthusiastic participation of residents, we are proud to announce that this initiative is now 67% complete!
Ward Allebach, who has led the efforts of the Conservancy for 16 years described the 5000 tree project:
“The need to replant native trees become more urgent as aging timber and increasingly severe storms continue to take a toll on our local trees.
Many of the oldest trees, which have stood for decades, are now reaching the end of their natural lifespan, becoming more vulnerable to insects, disease, decay, and high winds.
The Project to freely provide 5000 trees for planting throughout the community promotes appreciation and conservation of our unique natural resources we share in Bradford Woods and each have a stake in maintaining.
Native species are particularly important because they are adapted to local climate conditions, provide essential food and shelter for wildlife. Replanting trees oday will help sustain the ecological balance of our environment helping to keep Bradford Woods a great place to live.”
A Tradition Rooted in Earth Day & Community Spirit
Twice a year, on Earth Day in April and again in October, the Conservancy has freely distributed trees ensuring that residents have access to a diverse selection of native trees suited to our local ecosystem.
The Finish Line is in Sight – Let’s Keep Growing!
With over 3,350 trees already planted we are well on our way to reaching our 5,000-tree planted goal.
However, the work is not done! The Conservancy continues to seek support from residents and community members to help complete this ambitious project.
